The militia of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) has downed an unmanned aerial vehicle the Ukrainian army used for surveillance purposes, LPR Militia Spokesman Andrei Marochko said on Monday.
According to him, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have stepped up surveillance activities involving unmanned aerial vehicles along the line of contact.
"Another Ukrainian UAV was downed yesterday, which belonged to the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and was reconnoitering the LPR territory," the Luganskinformcenter news agency quoted Marochko as saying.
The Minsk Agreements ban the use of unmanned aerial vehicles and any other sort of aircraft in areas adjacent to the line of contact. In this regard, the LPR militia spokesman called on members of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to record this violation.
On July 1, a harvest ceasefire came into force in Donbass, which had been agreed on at a meeting of the Contact Group on resolving the situation in southeastern Ukraine. However, the shelling goes on. The Ukrainian military has in particular been using weapons banned by the Minsk Agreements, including large caliber artillery guns, mortars and tanks.
