Vladimir Dal Lugansk National University (LNU) has expressed its condolences on the death of an LNU graduate Irina Medicheva, killed in a terrorist attack in Kabul, the university press service said.
Armed militants attacked the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul on 21 January evening. Six attackers were killed in a 15-hour standoff. Taliban radical movement claimed responsibility.
According to the latest reports, the death toll exceeded 40, more than 120 people were saved. There were about ten foreigners among the fatalities, including seven Ukrainians. A number of media outlets reported that some of them were employees of Ukrainian Wings which cooperates with Afghanistan’s Kam Air.
“Irina Medicheva was admitted to our university in 2004; she successfully passed entrance examinations; her major was tourism. She got a bachelor’s degree from LNU in 2009 and a specialist’s degree in 2010 graduating with honors.
“The Dal University administration expresses its condolences on Irina’s tragic death,” the University said.
Medicheva was an employee of Ukrainian Wings transport company which flew cargoes from Kabul to other cities and countries. According to the information on her Facebook page, she had worked at Azur Air Ukraine earlier known as UTair-Ukraine; prior to that, she was a UTAir employee.
