Ukraine’s former President Viktor Yanukovich has lodged a defamation lawsuit against Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko, according to a post on the Ukrainian judicial portal.
The suit will be considered by Kiev’s Pechersky district court on September 13.
In September 2017, Lutsenko announced forfeiture to the state budget of a sum of 200 million US dollars owned by Yanukovich and his closest friends. Yanukovich’s lawyer, Vitaly Serdyuk, described the prosecutor general’s statement as "yet another fake news" and promised to file a lawsuit demanding misinformation be stopped. He said that according to official replies from European financial institutions and materials of the cases related to Yanukovich, "no money has been either arrested or seized or even mentioned but for that kept on deposits with Oshchadbank.
